THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXHIBITION

Rovinj and its surroundings are rich in archaeological sites from all historical periods – from prehistory (cave dwellings and hill-forts "gradine") to Roman (ville rustiche) and the Middle Ages (Pre-Romanesque, Romanesque and Gothic churches).

The Archaeological Exhibition is still in the phase of development; at present, on display are the findings from a multi-layered late Roman grave, dating from 2nd - 3rd century, excavated from the nearby Veštar bay (oil-lamps with figurative ornaments, an embalming dish, ceramic dishes and more) along with part of the stone decoration from the Carolingian church of St Thomas (9th century).
